The Clock Tower used to serve as a bell tower of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, but then it became a separate tower and turned into one of the Vyborg town's landmarks. You can often encounter it in the pictures and gravures of Russian painters because it creates a very peculiar landscape. When Vyborg was a part of Finland, the street with the Clock Tower was regarded as the most beautiful street in the country. An interesting fact: the clock mechanism was changed in 1848 last time and still operates perfectly.
